a platform for bamboo design information & insights

About

Greetings from Ewe Jin Low and welcome to this platform. I am an architect and a bamboo advocate. For over 30 years, I worked on mainstream projects in England, SE Asia and Australia before making my way to Bali.

Although I played with bamboo as a kid making bow and arrows, fishing poles and kites, my passion and knowledge in bamboo developed further during my time as Lead Architect at Ibuku Bali from 2015. I worked with the Ibuku team to create many of the bamboo buildings in Green School, Green Village Bali and in Ibuku’s work internationally. Bamboo is a re-emerging material that has so much scope in today’s context and I am still learning about bamboo almost everyday!

In 2018 I started my own bamboo projects further widening the experience and network in bamboo by delivering projects through TENTEN Design an architecture practice that works in Australia and the Asia Pacific region.

Bamboo teaching is a field that I have been involved in since 2016 beginning with presenting bamboo talks and facilitating workshops for Bamboo U, Bali. It is a real privilege for me to be able to share my bamboo journey and experience with those that are on the same path. More recently I have been invited to give talks, hold demonstration workshops and run courses in festivals, exhibitions and universities mainly in South East Asia.

This bamboo blog was initiated during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown in Melbourne when I was unable to travel for many months. We are also starting up online classes - have a look under Courses & Workshops.

Please see the launch blog Starting ’Better Bamboo Buildings’ if you have not done so - this gives you an introduction to the blog. I also post on bamboo design regularly and would love for you to visit our IG @betterbamboobuildings
